The dangers and hazards of parking lots

Although most people probably don’t think of parking lots as very dangerous places, they can actually be quite hazardous for unsuspecting drivers and pedestrians. Sometimes drivers become too complacent and distracted in parking lots while looking for an open space or navigating through the lot, and they fail to drive responsibly as a result. Unfortunately, these distractions often lead to auto collisions or auto/pedestrian collisions causing serious injuries to other people. Even in reduced-speed environments, car collisions can cause extensive damage, both to a vehicle and a person.

Many victims of car collisions in parking lots simply don’t expect a collision to occur due to its perceived safety. However, there are many aspects of parking lots that are inherently dangerous and may cause injuries in accidents. Some of the more dangerous aspects of parking lots include:

  • Crowded environment
  • Aggressive driving (trying to get an open spot)
  • Distracted driving
  • Accelerated speed over speed bumps
  • Refusal to yield to pedestrians
  • Refusal to obey all-way stops
  • Presence of a large number of pedestrians
  • Failure to pay attention to surroundings

These are only some of the reasons that parking lots can be potentially dangerous, even for a normally safe driver. However, if another person’s negligence or recklessness causes you injury, you might qualify for legal compensation.

If you or a loved one has been injured due another driver’s irresponsibility, the attorneys at the Manchin Injury Law Group can help.  Call us today for a free consultation at 304-816-4097.
